Lilydale Heights College
Lilydale Heights College is a government secondary college in the Melbourne outer eastern suburb of Lilydale.
In 2009,the school has operated with a 1:2 notebook program with trolleys of 13 notebooks available to classes.
There has been a trial of 1:1 UMPCs in the library.
In 2010, we are moving to a 1:1 program of netbooks.
With this in mind, we chose the Professional Development focus for our PLPNetbooks Reflective Project.
The Project
In brief:
Our PLP project aims to assist staff to embrace 21st century technologies in preparation for the impending introduction of one to one netbooks in 2010.
We are exploring and roadtesting a range of web 2.0 tools for classroom use and providing professional development for teachers.
We conducted an initial survey of staff use of web 2.0 tools both personally and with classes. This will be followed up during 2010 with a mid and end of year survey to monitor progress.
We set up a wiki to provide easy access to the roadtested tools. Each entry provides a brief description of the tool, suggested curriculum applications, samples, details of roadtesting, registration requirements, potential pitfalls and instructions for use.
Our project is a work in progress, pages will be progressively added to the wiki, incomplete pages completed and staff PD continued.
